Job Description

Based in Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire, our global service company is looking for an experienced finance expert to join them as UK Managment Accounting Manager.

This job would suit a Part Qualified or Qualified By Experience management accountant who would be responsible for the timely and accurate production of the management accounts including ensuring all billing accruals, job costing and work in progress (WIP) reporting is accurately accounted for across the numerous projects being undertaken across the UK. Overlooking a team or 2-3 people, previous supervisory experience would be beneficial.

The successful individual will have strong management accounting skills as this role will oversee two people who assist in the completion of the UK management accounts. They will mostly likely come from a project related industry background such as construction, pharmaceuticals, service sector, engineering etc. where job costing and understanding the complexities of reporting for ongoing work is key.

Role Purpose:

  • To manage the Management Accounts function for the UK, ensuring smooth running of the team on a day-to-day basis.
  • To ensure delivery of accurate and timely management reporting and billing within the agreed timetable.
  • To maintain the data integrity to ensure accurate reporting.
  • To analyse and review sales and gross profit on a monthly basis and investigate any abnormalities with the respective departments.
  • To demonstrate leadership and be a proactive member of the Finance team.

Duties will include:

  • To supervise the Management Accounts team, including working closely with colleagues at other locations.
  • To work with other team leaders to identify and develop routines/process improvements which speed up the production of month-end and other reporting.
  • In preparing the management accounts, ensuring all relevant accruals and prebilled fees have been taken into account and all journals recorded in time to meet reporting deadlines.
  • To ensure monthly billing is conducted in line with the month-end timetable.
  • Conduct monthly sales and gross profit review to include reconciliation by Task and Client and ensure all billing performed by Project Managers is accurately reflected and in line with the revenue recognition policies.
  • To carry out various Balance Sheet reconciliations, mainly relating to job accruals, WIP and prebilled fees.
  • Develop appropriate reporting templates to ensure that the financial and non-financial information available to the organisation is appropriate for its current and future needs.
  • Budgeting Control – Review all submitted budgets.
  • Preparation, review and analysis of monthly P&L for each Service Group.
  • Work with the Finance Manager to prepare annual Sales and Gross Profit budget.
  • Review spends on monthly/quarterly basis and feed back to Finance Manager and budget holders on actual status, highlighting any variances against budget. Feedback includes analysis of data, and recommending actions to be taken.
  • To be involved in the interviewing and selection process of new staff as required.
