Progressive Financial Controller

Job Description

Based in Didcot, Oxfordshire, our Manufacturing client seeks a Qualified ACA, ACCA, or CIMA accountant to join them as Financial Controller.

This job would suit an ambitious individual who has qualified within the last 2 years and is looking to drive their career forward in a varied role within a global organisation. The role is responsible for 3 direct reports and will be the ultimate driver in the monthly financial and management accounts production.

The business has been the leader in it’s field for over 100 years and continues to drive it’s core business while developing new related business streams. This global listed business employs over 18,000 people in over 40 countries working from over 100 manufacturing plants. This role fits into one of the niche divisions which employs c.200 people and is based in one of the two R&D sites in the world.

The successful individual will be ACA, ACCA or CIMA Qualified with a strong background in both management and financial accounts. This role will not suit someone coming from an SME background as the reporting, deadlines and systems are orientated towards a large corporate business. This role would suit a progressive accountant looking to step into a high profile role in a global business in order to gain themselves further more advanced opportunities in the future. This role has materialised due to the promotion of the current incumbent.

An overview of key duties are:

• Oversee preparation of monthly accounts
• Run a team of 3 direct reports including an Assistant FC (studier)
• Provision of financial information
• Support to Project and Team Managers – supporting c.150 Project Managers running over 300 projects ranging from $2000 to $35M+. The direct project costs (DPCs) are generally well forecasted and predominantly consist of payroll and equipment for each project. Hence this is a monitoring role to ensure control is maintained.
• Department budget setting – across 25 cost centres in the two R&D sites.
• Development of product cost model – opportunity to create a template model that can be used and rolled out for prospective new products (as well as existing ones) to ensure a consistent approach and understanding to all product costs.
• Development of finance training module for divisional staff – development and initiation of a finance training programme that can be given to all management and new starters (e.g. Project Managers) to ensure a thorough and consistent understanding of key financial drivers is held across the business.
• Process review of key areas
• Training and development of accounts team
• Numerous adhoc value add/ ROI workstreams that can be undertaken on an ongoing basis
